BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas speaks out on Giovanni Pernice following show exit

Shirley Ballas has spoken out with praise for Giovanni Pernice after it was revealed he won't be returning to 'Strictly Come Dancing this year. The 63-year-old star serves as head judge on the BBC dance show while Giovanni spent several years as a professional dancer.
However, it was announced earlier this month the the Italian star will not be part of this year's professional lineup for the upcoming 2024 series amid allegations of "threatening and abusive behaviour" towards his former partners.
He previously rejected the allegations and said he looks “forward to clearing my name”. Giovanni, 33, issued a fresh statement on Sunday morning (June 16) and said he is “co-operating fully” with an ongoing BBC investigation and is looking forward to “clearing my name and establishing the truth”.

Now, in a new interview, Shirley has described Giovanni as a "true gentleman" and as a "hard worker" who always tries his best. She told Best magazine: "I think everybody in the 'Strictly' cast is fantastic and I've known Giovanni a long, long time.
"I've known him probably longer than a lot of people have known him and I can only talk from personal experience. He's got a work ethic that is the same as mine. He works hard and he wants the best for anybody who wants to learn. He's a true gentleman, and of course, he always looks drop-dead gorgeous."
Shirley also noted that Giovanni is an incredibly considerate person in general who goes out of his way to make someone feel "super-special". She added: "He always puts his best foot forward and
