BBC Strictly Come Dancing has announced its first wave of contestants who will be taking part in the show, which begins next month.
It was revealed during The One Show on Friday, August 4, that actress Amanda Abbington, actor Layton Williams and iconic newsreader Angela Rippon would all be taking to the dancefloor in the hopes of winning the Glitterball trophy.
However, fans of the show weren't entirely happy to find out Layton would be taking part. The actor, who is known for his role in the hit comedy Bad Education, has also had major theatre experience in London's West End.
Birmingham Live reports that he played Billy Elliot at the age of just 12, and also took on the role of lead character in Everyone's Talking About Jamie until May 2022.
He has studied street dance and drama at Carol Godby's Theatre workshop in Bury, Greater Manchester, and also studied ballet at Centre Pointe, Manchester.
Layton was also awarded a scholarship to Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.
On social media, some fans of the show weren't happy about Layton competing against dancing beginners.
One person asked: "Isn't Layton a trained dancer?"
Another echoed: "Isn’t he ….. a dancer?" while a third commented: "But he’s a dancer. Is this going to be like it was with Ashley Roberts?"
And a fourth added: "Surely he’s won AUTOMATICALLY?! He is such an outstanding dancer!"
However, some fans were quick to disagree, with one saying: "He isn’t trained in ballroom and latin."
And another echoed: "But Latin and ballroom will go against all the training he's had. The techniques are completely different. The only advantage is they maybe learn routines quicker. I have ballet and contemporary training. Could not get the hang of ballroom or Latin."
