Antiques Road Trip viewers have been hooked on the BBC show since it started in 2010. The programme sees experts compete to snap up items to sell at auction later while sticking to a strict budget.
Loyal fans will remember one particular episode back in 2012 which featured a damaged £8 Staffordshire elephant statue sold on for thousands of pounds.
Expert Charlie Ross bagged the bargain after he and James Braxton were given a budget of £200 to source some antiques. And the stars were both left stunned when the clock racked up huge attention online at their first auction up in Buckie.
During the episode, as writes the Mirror, a voiceover said at the time: "With one lot each still to go, Charlie is only £7 ahead, next up it's his Staffordshire elephant and the auctioneer thinks it could go for a couple of hundred!" But before long, the bids built up as phone and internet buyers sent the value into the hundreds. As the price continued to soar, Charlie and James couldn't hide their shock, exclaiming: "Sorry, are you hearing this? This is ridiculous!"
And as the auctioneer overseeing things read out a new incredible bid of £2,100, the Voiceover went on to say: "Unheard of on the Road Trip!" In the end, the item sold for a staggering £2,700 with the experts admitting they only thought it would fetch for a "few hundred quid".
The voiceover added to the excitement as it said: "Never in the history of the Road Trip have we ever had a sale like that, what an amazing result Charlie!"
Viewers couldn’t believe what they’d seen as they took to X, then known as Twitter, at the time, with one saying: "Holy cow, a staffordshire elephant bought for £8 just made £2,700 on #antiquesRoadtrip , previous owner must be spitting feathers!”.
