A woman was left pleasantly surprised on a recent episode of Antiques Roadshow US, after learning the worth of one of her belongings.
The guest appeared on the show with an orange bird glass ornament, which dated back to the 1960s and according to the owner, it was gifted to her years ago by her ex husband's mother. She explained to the show's expert, Arlie Sulka: "It was a gift from a former mother-in-law, she thought I would like it." "She brought it to me from Italy and it's by a sculptor named Vistosi, I don't know much more about him," she continued.
Luckily for the guest, Arlie was on hand to provide in depth knowledge about the item, and began to reel off facts about the maker, design, history, and origins. Plus, the huge price tag it had accumulated six decades later.
Arlie shared that the name of the ornament is 'Pulcino,' which means young chicken, chick, or baby bird in Italian. She added: "And if you look at him, he really does look like a cute little 1960s chicken." The expert continued to explain that the item was actually made by a company called Vistosi, but the original design was the work of a young designer (at the time), called Alessandro Pianon.
Arlie revealed that he joined the company in 1956, but didn't design the glass chicken ornament until 1963. "When he was hired in 1956, he had already attended school to become an architect and designer and he was hired to design the company's logo and produce designs that would be made in glass," she said.
