A comic book lover from America was over the moon that his mum held onto his impressivecollection from over the years, after he discovered one in particular is worth thousands.
The Antiques Roadshow US guest was welcomed onto the show clutching his box of comic books that his mum purchased at an auction herself years ago. He explained: "When I was a kid, I would go down to a store in Washington and buy candy and comics and my mum knew this, of course.
"And so one day I’m at work and she calls me and says 'I’m down at the auction'”. His mum was at storage units where people sell items inside after the units have been sitting too long, unattended.
"She said to me there were two boxes of comic books and did I want to have her bid on them and I said sure." Little did he know that he was about to sit on a goldmine, although he has admitted that his mum annoyingly decided to just purchase one of the two boxes for $24. He continued: "To this day I kind of wonder what might have been in the other box!" Show expert James Supp revealed that the fan has bought a "tremendous collection" on the episode filmed before 2015, and pulled out two comics in particular - the first being retro classic The Avengers One from September 1, 1963, with superhero Ant-Man on the cover, stating that there was to be a Marvel film coming out about his character.
Ant-Man was then released in cinemas in 2015, starring Paul Rudd at the main character. The second comic had Space Phantom on the cover which sadly, James pointed out, "Unfortunately, I don't think anyone really knows about anymore." The expert continued to point out that whilst both comics had flaws, they were rare.
