“Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens” rises or falls on its star’s charisma. Thankfully, she has plenty to spare.
The series is hardly the first to lend itself to comparisons to “Broad City,” but it’s a rare case in which the comparisons are accurate — starting with its leveraging its star’s inherent likability in order to tell a story of amiable aimlessness among young New Yorkers. That helps carry over the line some of the show’s less successful writing; even baggily paced or confusing episodes

Awkwafina’s incredible run of success continues, as the numbers for the debut of her new Comedy Central show make for more than pleasant reading.
The story follows Nora (Awkwafina's real name is Nora Lum, BTW) as she goes about her day-to-day life in New York City, trying to figure out adulthood as an unemployed 27-year-old living in a house in Queens with her grandmother and father. And, yes, the show is loosely based on Awkwafina's pre-Hollywood stardom life.

Robert De Niro is a big winner. It’s the afternoon of the AFI Luncheon, honoring the best in film and television, and De Niro has just left the ceremony with three certificates. “There they are, yeah,” he gestures to a table in his hotel room at the Four Seasons when asked, as if it’s no big deal. Because De Niro, widely considered one of the Greatest of All Time, makes it look easy.
