Aston Merrygold pays tribute to 'original JLS member' after dancer dies

Aston Merrygold has paid a poignant tribute to a former JLS backup dancer, dubbing him as an 'original JLS team member'.
Dancer, Jack Pointer Mackenzie, recently died aged 35 with Aston - who was in JLS alongside Marvin Humes, Ortise Williams and JB Gil from 2009 until their last tour in 2021 - paying tribute on Instagram.
Aston wrote: "RIP captain," with a prayer hand and raised hand emojis.
He added: "Original JLS team member!" reports OK!.
On Aston's next Instagram story, Aston shared a video of Jack and other backing dancers performing on stage alongside JLS.
Aston added the words: "Captain Jack always with the vibe from 2009 and beyond!!
"A phenomenal team member!"
Base Dance Studios shared a couple of black and white snaps of Jack to Instagram, as they wrote: "A unique gift, who shall be sorely missed. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
"Jack Nathaniel Pointer-Mackenzie."
Following the sweet tribute, a number of fans paid tribute to Jack after he passed away.
One wrote: "RIP Jack - heart goes out to your friends and family. Nothing beats a day one dancer x"
Another said: "Not Jack hadn't seen him in years but what a sweet soul and infectious spirit he had. Can't believe it rest easy my man."
"A huge loss for the community. Love to his closest, and dearest. Fly High Jack," said another.
"A beautiful dancer, teacher and human," commented a fourth.
Aston added a prayer hand and black heart emoji.
Jack's funeral took place on 2 October, 2023, according to a tribute site.
