Armed cops have locked down a residential street in Arbroath.
Police were called to Strathairlie Avenue in the Angus seaside town at around 1pm on Monday April 17, and have maintained a presence throughout the afternoon. Details of the incident are scant, with officials saying that the large-scale operation was in response to reports of a "disturbance".
Locals say that the street has been cordoned off, with no-one allowed into the road. Images shared with the Record show a dense police presence in the street, with at least half a dozen vehicles parked along its length and armed officers standing in the street with highly visible sub-machine guns at their side.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are in attendance at Strathairlie Avenue, Arbroath, following reports of a disturbance. Strathairlie Avenue is currently closed."
