This is the horrifying moment a man was struck over the head with what is thought to be a paving slab in a violent attack that police are treating as attempted murder.
The alleged victim sustained "serious, but not life-threatening" injuries after he was attacked in the street in Dukinfield, a town around six miles east of Manchester, on the evening of Sunday April 16. Police were called to Dean Court at around 7.45pm after the man was found injured in the street, yards from the gate of a local school.
Footage obtained by the Manchester Evening News shows the horrific moment the perpetrator of the attack brought the piece of stone down on his victim's head. In the clip – which has been edited to hide the identities of those involved for legal reasons – the perpetrator can be heard challenging his victim.
He can be heard shouting: "Do you want this over your head?" while he brandishes the piece of paving. The victim is seen walking closer, with his hands clasped behind his back.
The attacker is heard to shout "Seriously, seriously," as he lifts the paving slab up. The attacker then lunges at the other man with the slab.
He brings it into contact with his victim's head. The victim then slumps to the ground, lying still in the middle of the road, seemingly unconscious.
The attacker is then seen pacing back and forth, repeatedly taunting: "I warned you."
Police established a cordon in the area and set up a blue forensics tent, with white-suited scene of crime officers seen on Monday in Hill Street. One woman told the MEN she had seen the man lying on the ground with a "bloody" head injury, and the paving slab lying nearby.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have since confirmed they have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of
