Annabel Croft has heartbreakingly said she can "relate" to Kate Garraway after they both tragically lost their husbands.
The Strictly Come Dancing star opened up about experiencing "horrendous grief" in a candid new interview. Annabel, 57, sadly lost her husband Mel Coleman in May 2023. Mel passed away age 60, just eight weeks after he was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer.
Meanwhile, Kate's husband Derek Draper tragically passed away in January following a cardiac arrest in December. Derek became seriously ill in March 2020 after contracting coronavirus and had been in and out of hospital for over three years. Tennis ace Annabel revealed she feels like "nothing matters anymore" following the loss of her husband.
She married Mel back in 1992 and the couple shared two daughters, Amber, 27, and Lily, 24, and a son, Charlie, 26. She told Women & Home Magazine: "Kate Garraway's been going through [grief] for a long time and it's a very different [scenario to mine], but I can imagine how she's feeling." Annabel branded grief "horrendous" and admitted that she ends up "sobbing" when looking through old photographs. She added: "Grief is horrendous and I take every day as it comes.
I try to fill the day with nice things, but when I'm on my own at home, if I start looking at pictures, I start sobbing." She went on to admit that Christmas and New Year had been especially hard for her and her three kids. Annabel told how she has "three piles" of unopened letters from well-wishers, but she can't bring herself to read them as every time she tries, she "can't stop crying". Strictly Come Dancing proved to be a welcome distraction for Annabel in the midst of her heartbreaking grief.
