The Streets overcome adversities on new single ‘Each Day Gives’

The Streets have shared a new single called ‘Each Day Gives’ – listen below. The track is the latest preview of Mike Skinner and co’s sixth studio album ‘The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light’, which will arrive on October 20 alongside an accompanying film.“The way the album was written was very much with the film in mind. The songs weave around the scenes and the dialogue to give a bigger picture of what’s going on – sometimes really acting as the narrator,” Skinner explained.“‘Each Day Gives’ comes as the main characters are facing a dilemma and working out what to do after their plans go awry – the song talks about overcoming little (and big) adversities and waking up each morning and treating it as a fresh start – until the next dilemma kicks in!”The single follows on from ‘Troubled Waters’ and ‘Too Much Yayo’, the latter of which arrived last month.‘The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light’ marks Skinner’s first full-length release as The Streets since 2011’s ‘Computers And Blues’.The frontman recently spoke about how the LP’s accompanying film was both a “nightmare” and an “obsession” to make.

‘Day of the Fight’ Review: Another Broken-Down Boxer Travels the Comeback Trail

Guy Lodge Film Critic As directorial head-to-heads go, Jack Huston versus Stanley Kubrick isn’t anyone’s idea of a fair fight. But that’s exactly the clash the actor and Hollywood scion sets up for himself in his directorial debut “Day of the Fight” — named for Kubrick’s famous 1951 documentary short of the same title, and likewise following an Irish-American boxer through his daily New York routine, in the hours leading up to a climactic evening match.

I’m referring to “A Sun,” a multi-faceted Taiwanese family saga from director Chung Mong-Hong that seemed to shift and evolve as it unfolded, challenging what audiences though they knew about the characters.

‘Out of Season’ Review: Two Lost Lovers Get a Second Chance to Say Goodbye in Stéphane Brizé’s Delicate Mood Piece

Guy Lodge Film Critic There’s a faintly between-worlds air to the coastal luxury spa in which the bulk of “Out of Season” is set: Spartan and depopulated, decorated in assorted shades of oyster white and palest aqua, it’s half sanatorium and half heaven’s gate, made uncannier still by the empty, forbidding sprawl of the wintering beach outside. That makes it an apt place for burnt-out actor Mathieu (Guillaume Canet) to come and consider where his life has led him thus far; it also proves a kind of corridor to the past, minus any actual time travel, when his visit reunites him with Alice (Alba Rohrwacher), a spurned lover from years before.

‘Day Of The Fight’ Review: Jack Huston Packs An Emotional Punch With His Directing Debut – Venice Film Festival

There’s been a lot of jealous talk about nepotism in the film world lately, but who would really want to come into the movie world as a, what, fourth-generation Huston? There are likely swords already being sharpened for Jack Huston, the handsome, charming, 40-year-old nephew of Anjelica, grandson of Jack and great-grandson of Walter. But his directing debut, Day of the Fight, which premiered this week in the Venice Film Festival’s Horizons Extra section, is certainly worthy of the family name. It’s a little earnest, sometimes a bit too style-conscious, and Huston is inclined to put performance before story every time. But the emotional input really earns its payoff in a confident, imaginatively mounted calling card.

‘Enea’ Review: Super Rich Kids With Nothing but Loose Ends, Italian Style, in Pietro Castellitto’s Emptily Swaggering Youth Study

Guy Lodge Film Critic About 20 minutes pass in “Enea” before someone asks the young, handsome, splendidly attired title character what he does for a living, during which time audiences are likely to be wondering the same thing. This, to be fair, is not a negligent omission in writer-director-star Pietro Castellitto’s script, which tells us early on that Enea, the elder son of a wealthy Roman family, ostensibly manages a high-end sushi restaurant, atop an assortment of more underhand dealings.

‘Pet Shop Days’ Review: Two Men With Daddy Issues Attract One Another, and Trouble, in Promising Nepo Debut

Todd Gilchrist editor A scrappy urban tale of misspent young adulthood, Olmo Schnabel’s “Pet Shop Days” evokes the blown-out, stolen-shot 16mm character studies of 1990s independent cinema, as well as the bohemian oeuvre of painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, his father. This isn’t attributable merely to the fact that the younger Schnabel includes a scene in which his characters watch Julian’s 1996 “Basquiat,” whose themes and aloof tone — not to mention the events of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s actual life — would seem an obvious inspiration for his first feature.
