An international spirits competition has officially ranked an affordable bottle of gin from Aldi as one of the best in the world.
The budget supermarket has earned quite the reputation for providing shoppers with a variety of great quality products at low prices over the past few years.
Now, the discounter's humble £14.99 Haysmith’s Rhubarb & Ginger Gin has earned the highest score in the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).
Achieving the Gold Outstanding Award and 98 points, Aldi's own-brand gin came out on top spot as it even beat out Edinburgh Gin’s Rhubarb & Ginger option.
Edinburgh Gin's bottle retails at around £28, meaning Aldi certainly lives up its reputation for providing its customers with great quality at affordable prices.
The Haysmith Rhubarb & Ginger Gin also managed to score double the amount of points as its competitor Waitrose, which only scooped up seven awards.
Aldi's award-winning gin managed to impress the judges who said it was "magnificently well balanced with full, rich flavours of mouth-watering rhubarb, fiery ginger and chaste juniper."
It wasn't the only award that the retailer took home from the IWSC awards, as it also managed to snap up a whopping 17 awards at the contest.
The retailer's Glen Marnoch Limited Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, priced at £17.49 for a 70cl, also managed to scoop a Gold Medal for its “lovely soft texture and solid length”.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK says: "We are extremely proud to have received the highest possible accolade for our own brand spirits. Now more than ever, we want to show that low prices don’t mean compromising on quality or taste."
