‘Riceboy Sleeps’ Scoops Top Canadian Film AwardAnthony Shim’s Riceboy Sleeps has won Canada’s biggest film award, the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award. The prize, decided by the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA), comes with a CAN$100,000 ($72,000) cash prize. Riceboy Sleeps beat nominees Clement Virgo’s Brother and David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future. The semi-autobiographical film explores the challenges of living between two cultures through the tale of a Korean immigrant single mother raising her son in Canada. Shot in the Greater Vancouver area and Korea, the feature world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, winning its Platform Prize, and then played in Busan and a raft of other festivals. The win comes as Toronto-based distributor Game Theory Films gears up for the title’s Canadian release on March 17. The feature will also be released in Korea, Singapore and the US in the coming months.  “The Toronto film community has been so good to us since TIFF where this crazy journey first began and I hope to make more films in the future that will warrant the same type of support,” commented Shim.

CMT Music Awards will have plenty of familiar faces — and a whole lot of new ones. Lainey Wilson leads the charge with four noms, including Performance of the Year and Female Video of the Year. Tied with three nominees apiece are first-time nominee Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, and CMT Music Awards co-host Kane Brown.Across all categories, CMT is recognizing 21 first-time nominees.Meanwhile, the first round of nominations for the highly coveted Video of the Year award has 16 acts, including another nod for Carrie Underwood, who reigns as the most awarded artist in CMT history with a total of 25 wins.

2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards is gearing up to be another unforgettable night for music. On Tuesday, iHeartMedia revealed the first round of performers joining the lineup for this year's ceremony — and you'll definitely recognize these names. Swift will receive the 2023 iHeartRadio Innovator award in recognition of her decades-long career and artistic influence. In a press release, iHeart cited the pop singer’s in-demand tours and her 2022 top-selling album “Midnights,” noting that lead single “Anti-Hero,” is currently the most-played song across iHeartRadio. Previous recipients of the Innovator award include Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, U2 and Alicia Keys. “Along with her artistic success, Taylor’s generosity and philanthropy have inspired millions,” the release continues. “She’s an advocate for women’s rights and the LGBTQ+ community, using her music and platform to inspire young people to use their voting power.”

NewJeans swept the K-pop categories at this year’s Korean Music Awards, beating out popular contemporaries such as (G)I-DLE, LE SSERAFIM, IVE and more.The quintet took home the awards for both Best K-pop Album and Best K-pop Song, with their self-titled debut EP and the hit song ‘Attention’ respectively. 54th NAACP Image Awards Saturday night, and the 53-year-old gave an impassioned speech for Black Americans to fight against politicians «in Florida or any of the other 50 states» trying to erase Black history.The longtime advocate for families who have lost loved ones to police violence was honored with the award for his efforts in protecting the rights of people on the federal, state and local levels.«I accept this award as greater motivation to continue to be [an] unapolgetic defender of Black life, Black liberty and Black humanity,» Crump said during his acceptance speech. «I promise I will use this Social Justice Award as greater incentive to fight against the legalized genocide of colored people and vow never to stop fighting racism and discrimination when it rears its ugly head.»Addressing Gov.
