Bill Nighy led stars walking the Oscars carpet wearing a blue ribbon to “commemorate” the millions of displaced people around the world.The veteran British star, who was nominated for the first time at the ceremony for Best Actor, joined Cate Blanchett in wearing the ribbon made by refugees as part of an initiative from the United Nations refugee agency, the UNHCR. Famous faces were invited to wear the ribbon as an “emblem of compassion and solidarity” for those who have been forced to flee their homes because of war, conflict and persecution. Asked by Sky News about the Oscars reportedly wanting to avoid politics this year, Nighy said: “120 million people being displaced and children being in terrible distress, I don’t think that is politics.

Oscars race for Best Actress, which referred to fellow nominee Cate Blanchett.The actor, who is in the running for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, spotlighted the Vogue article “It’s Been Over Two Decades Since We’ve Had A Non-White Best Actress Winner. Will That Change in 2023?” on Tuesday (March 7).While most of the article highlights the lack of representation at the Academy Awards, a paragraph – included in Yeoh’s Instagram post – specifically refers to Blanchett who is nominated for her performance in Tár.“Detractors would say that Blanchett’s is the stronger performance – the acting veteran is, indisputably, incredible as the prolific conductor Lydia Tár – but it should be noted that she already has two Oscars,” the article reads.

Michelle Yeoh is gaining attention for something she posted and deleted online, and it might have gone against the Academy rules as a nominee in the Best Actress category.

The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actress posted the photo on her Instagram account mere hours before official Oscar voting ended and then promptly deleted it, according to the Daily Beast.

Film Independent Spirit Awards were handed out live Saturday night. Continuing a long-standing tradition, the 38th annual ceremony, which honors and celebrates independent filmmakers, took place at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California. This year’s most-nominated films were , which garnered eight total nods and competed in the Best Feature category against , which had seven nods. Other top movies included , and .,, and, meanwhile, led the TV nominations with three each, while the latter three faced off in the Best New Scripted Series category.

The 38th Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted by Hasan Minhaj, took place on Saturday, live from the beach in Santa Monica, California. The annual awards ceremony was live-streamed on IMDb’s YouTube page, plus additional social platforms, including Film Independent’s YouTube channel.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Cate Blanchett recently had her way with Mahler’s fifth on screen, but she really digs her dancing heels into Sparks’ 26th — a song from the duo’s 26th album, that is — with the brand new music video for the record’s title track, “The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte.” Blanchett seems to be caught up in her own dance symphony as, rocking a yellow suit and bright red headphones, she alternately hoofs and sulks her way through the spirited track, in which tears and overcaffeination make for a natural brew. Ron and Russell Mael told Variety how a chance meeting with Blanchett at a film festival led to shooting the video in Los Angeles just two weeks ago. (The currently Oscar-nominated “Tar” star corroborated details of their surprise collaboration in a separate interview.) The brothers also talked about the pleasures of bringing the “Latte” album to the public after drawing in new fans with the recent “Sparks Brothers” and “Annette” films, and what it means to finally be playing both the Hollywood Bowl and Royal Albert Hall this summer, 52 years after the start of their recording career.
