Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returned Friday night for the WWE Friday Night Smackdown at the Ball Arena in Denver, CO. As might be expected, the crowd went wild, resulting in a four-minute standing ovation for the actor, who is currently out of work in his day gig.
Pat McAfee helped goose the event appearance. “This is the people’s show. And you know what that means,” McAfee said as The Rock made his entrance .
The match featured the rock against Austin Theory.
The Rock hasn’t appeared on Smackdown since 2019, since he’s been busy making movies. But he hasn’t forgotten the wrestling script.
When Theory started to antagonize him, asking, “Do you know whose ring you’re in?” The Rock responded. “Shut your bitch-ass up. You clearly don’t know how all this works.”
He then doffed his jacket and roared, “Finally, The Rock has come back to Denver!”
Highlighting the match was The Rock’s use of his signature move, The People’s Elbow. See below for details.
Also on hand was The Rock’s former rival, John Cena, who faced off against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa during the program. The two superstars shared a moment before the match, and Cena later posted to X about the night.
“The best nights are the ones when we remember we’re all fans,” Cena wrote. “Welcome home, The Rock.”

Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill and John Cena link up in the trailer for upcoming spy movie “Argylle.”
was unceremoniously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav last year, and actor Henry Cavill was fired from the role of Superman shortly after.
The trailer for Argylle is finally here and it looks SO fun!
Charna Flam Although Henry Cavill has hung up his Superman cape, the star is set to save the world once more, this time as an international spy in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy thriller, “Argylle.” Apple Original Films released the first trailer for the movie, teasing Cavill’s super-spy, Argylle, who travels around the globe conducting top-secret missions. The film, out Feb. 2, 2024, was previously said to be based on a forthcoming novel from first-time author Elly Conway — but with the trailer and movie’s official synopsis, it’s been revealed that Conway is also a character in the film.
Argylle, featuring Dua Lipa, has arrived – you can watch it above.Directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise), the star-studded film follows Bryce Dallas Howard’s (Jurassic World franchise) spy fiction novelist Elly Conway, who spends most of her nights at home with her cat, Alfie. However, when the plots of her books — centred on secret agent Argyle (Henry Cavill) — begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organisation, Elly’s quiet evenings at home quickly become a thing of the past.An official description adds: “Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”Alongside Howard, Rockwell, Cavill and Dua Lipa, the A-list ensemble cast also includes John Cena (Fast X), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Samuel L. Jackson.
DC co-Boss James Gunn took to Instagram’s Threads to field fan questions, and in the process confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will continue to play Blue Beetle, Oscar winner Viola Davis will still be Amanda Waller and John Cena will remain Peacemaker.
An online rumor recently made the rounds saying filmmaker Matthew Vaughn was next in line to take over the James Bond franchise, and it’s fitting but almost laughable. Because Vaughn, who actively sought the James Bond gig early in his directing life, has basically made an entire career of doing his own spy franchises, almost snubbing his nose at Bond in the process.
