A grandmother who deliberately mowed down her boyfriend with her Renault Clio car during a breakfast time bust-up has been freed after he forgave her and agreed to rekindle their stormy romance.
Janette Lines, 57, mounted a pavement and ploughed into the back of Gary Butterworth's legs after he stormed out of her home following a row over her son. When a witness tried to intervene, Lines told her to 'f..k off' before berating Mr Butterworth as he lay injured at the roadside.
The victim was taken to hospital by Lines and a male relative and he was treated for cuts and bruising to his feet, toes and ankles. Police tried to get a statement from him but he declined to cooperate saying Lines needed help for anger management issues. The couple have since kissed and made up.
At Manchester Crown Court, Lines, from Eccles near Salford admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving but was freed with a two year community order after Mr Butterworth attended the hearing to support her.
A charge against her of attempting to wound Mr Butterworth with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was allowed to lie on file. The reason for the argument is not known.
The incident occurred on September 8 last year after divorcee Lines had been dating Mr Butterworth for four months. David Lees prosecuting said: ''The previous day My Butterworth had made a 999 call from his home but that call was abandoned when he was later traced. He said it was domestic incident when Miss Lines refused to leave his premises and he did not wish to take matters any further.
''However the parties continued to argue, this time at Miss Lines' home and at 7am Mr Butterworth left and that seems to have upset her and she followed him in her car. A
