Saw X is hitting theaters at the end of September, and fans are already curious about the fate of the long-running horror franchise.
In the movie – a prequel set in between the first and second movies – Tobin Bell returns as John “Jigsaw” Kramer, making Saw II the follow-up to Saw X.
Director Kevin Greutert addressed sequels in an interview with SFX Magazine, via CBR.

“There’s no obvious new direction to go after this film. But I think there probably will be more Saw movies, particularly if this one is successful,” he said.
“I truly believe that this is the most standalone Saw film since the first one. It’s not about knowing or remembering anything about the previous films. It’s a richer experience if you know about Saw because otherwise you won’t necessarily know who Amanda is when she appears, but it’s very clear from the beginning what’s happening.”
He’s referring to Amanda Young, a Jigsaw apprentice played by Shawnee Smith.
He also teased “surprises” for fans in the film, saying it builds “more on what’s in the past,” as opposed to future movies. The film hits theaters on September 29.
