Former Premier League referee Mike Dean says Rasmus Hojlund's Manchester United goal was rightly ruled out by VAR despite the assistant 'understandably' missing it.
United had started well against Brighton and Hove Albion in the opening stages but found themselves behind against the run of play. A momentary lapse in concentration allowed Danny Welbeck to tap home from six yards to haunt his former club.
The Reds managed to rally and were nearly level when Marcus Rashford hit the crossbar. United continued to press and thought they were level moments before the interval.

Tricky play from Rashford saw him get to the byline before pulling the ball back to Hojlund who guided it home. As the Dane celebrated VAR was checking whether the Reds' winger had taken the ball out of play before crossing.
After some deliberation, the decision was taken to rule out the goal much to the disappointment of both the fans and players. However, speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, Dean believes the officials at Stockley Park came to the right decision.
He explained: "Out of play and in play is [a straightforward decision] but it is very, very tight and I can understand why the assistant referee hasn't seen it. It took a lot of freeze frames forwards and backwards, forwards and backwards, but the ball had just gone out so the correct decision by the VAR."
Things would go from bad to worse in the second half as Brighton doubled their advantage less than 10 minutes after the interval. Pascal Gross' goal left the Reds with a mountain to climb and things got even worse as Joao Pedro added another with 20 minutes to play before Hannibal Mejbri pulled one back.
