The final week of the transfer window was always bound to throw up a few surprises but news of Manchester United's reported interest in Pierre-Emile Højbjerg certainly came out of the blue.
The Telegraph reported on Monday evening that Højbjerg had been offered to United, and with Erik ten Hag keen to add more depth in midfield between now and Friday's 11pm deadline, a move was being 'considered'. The Dutchman was appointed as coach of the under-19s side in 2013, working with a teenage Højbjerg during his time in Germany. Such was his admiration for the midfielder, that he tried to sign him for Ajax in the summer of 2020.
