Zack Snyder’s new Netflix film has the worst reviews of his career

Zack Snyder’s new Netflix film is out and it is receiving the worst reviews of the director’s career to date.Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver hit the streaming platform last Friday (April 19), the sequel to its 2023 predecessor. It stars Sofia Boutella as a former soldier who recruits warriors from neighbouring planets to fight back against the evil Imperium when her farming colony is threatened. On the reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film is currently sitting on a 17 per cent rating, surpassing his previous low, which was the first Rebel Moon film at 21 per cent. Some of Snyder’s previous films, including his DC Extended Universe entries Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the original cut of Justice League, are all certified rotten on the site, at 56, 29 and 40 per cent respectively. His highest-rated directorial project to date is his 2004 debut Dawn of the Dead at 76 per cent, followed by his 2021 extended cut of Justice League at 72 per cent.In a one-star review, The Times said, “You’d sell your granny for a sci-fi brain gizmo that could wipe the entire mess from your mind for ever”.The Telegraph, meanwhile, declared that, “We’re given hundreds of details about this galaxy far far away, but no reasons to care about any of them.”Snyder himself has hit back at the negative reviews for the film, saying he’s perplexed by the hostile reaction.“I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews. For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarising, and it always has been.

Mavis Staples’ 85th Birthday Salute Brings Out Chris Stapleton, Hozier, Black Pumas, Bonnie Raitt and Other All-Star Acolytes

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic If we had the ability to assess who is the most beloved figure in music — not in overall numbers, but sheer adoration, per capita and per peer — it likely wouldn’t be Taylor or Beyoncé but Mavis Staples, who has been taking us there since the late ’60s. There being the smile that crosses anyone’s face when fortunate enough to be in the same room, or even in just giving a passing thought to that voice, that presence, and all the different ways in which Staples embodies righteousness.

Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot points, including the ending, of “Abigail,” currently playing in theaters. The vampire thriller “Abigail” originated as a modern-day update of the classic horror film “Dracula’s Daughter.” But by the time the filmmaking trio Radio Silence — producer Chad Villella and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — began production on “Abigail” in Ireland in the spring of 2023, the movie had virtually no connection to the 1936 Universal picture.

Why Some Emmy Contenders are Considering Entering the Drama Series Race Rather Than Limited Category (EXCLUSIVE)

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Emmy watchers should not be surprised if multiple top contenders this year opt to take a shot at the drama series race rather than compete in the limited series category. The list is known to include Apple TV+ ‘s “Masters of the Air,” FX’s “Shōgun” and HBO’s “The Sympathizer,” which means that those platforms are considering future seasons of those shows. Multiple sources tell Variety that the top-tier contenders that seemed naturally bound for the limited series race are the subject of intense strategy discussions among network executives, agents, creators, PR and awards consultants.
