Once Christmas Day is out the way the festivities do not end across the UK. The following day, known as Boxing Day, is a bank holiday with many families using it to extend the celebration and spend more time together.
Other Boxing Day traditions include heading to the shops in a bid to grab a bargain in the sales or to go to the football or rugby to watch a game.
However, not all shops will be open with many confirming they are staying shut to give staff an extra day off, including Aldi, Lidl and The Range.
But why is December 26 - the day after Christmas - known as Boxing Day? As you may expect there is no clear-cut answer with many historians disagreeing over the origin of the name.

The day has been an official bank holiday in the UK since 1871 - during the reign of Queen Victoria. If it falls on a weekend then the bank holiday is instead moved to Monday.
And it is not just celebrated in the UK with many Commonwealth nationals, including Canada, Australia, Nigeria and South Africa, also recognising the day.
