Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak went head to head in the first televised leaders’ debate of the General Election campaign tonight (Tuesday June 4).
The hour-long debate, broadcast on ITV, took place in front of a studio audience and was moderated by Julie Etchingham, who led the ITV election debates in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
The head to head came exactly a month before voters across the nation take to the polls for the general election on July 4.

Following the debate, a snap YouGov poll of 1,657viewers revealed how people feel each party leader performed, and who they think came across best.
51 per cent of viewers said they felt that Rishi Sunak performed better in the debate, compared with 49 per cent for Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.
Of those viewers who voted for the Conservatives in the last general election, 85 percent believed Rishi Sunak won the debate, compared with 15 for Keir Starmer.
When asked how well they thought both party leaders performed - the results were more varied. For Rishi Sunak, 19 percent said he performed very well, 36 percent said fairly well, 29 percent voted fairly badly and 15 percent argued very badly.
For Sir Keir Starmer, 12 percent said he performed very well in the debate, followed by 48 percent for fairly well, 32 percent for fairly badly and eight percent for very badly.
The YouGov snap poll also organised results from viewers who had previously voted for the Conservatives. Of that cohort, 36 percent believed Sunak had performed very well, followed by 47 percent for fairly well, 13 percent for fairly badly and four percent argued he
