Eurovision Song Contest, after it was confirmed that Liverpool had been chosen as the UK host city for the competition. On Friday’s The One Show, Graham Norton made the huge announcement, as the people of Liverpool celebrated and those in Glasgow commiserated over their loss.
However, that wasn’t the only news that came from the evening, as it was also revealed what date Eurovision 2023 will take place on. While chatting on The One Show sofa, presenter Roman Kemp turned to Graham as he said: ‘We will be following all the build-up to Eurovision on The One Show and for the first time ever, the two semi-finals will be on BBC One.
Graham, when will that final be?’Get your diaries at the ready!‘I can reveal it’s Liverpool, 13th May! Pop that in your calendars!’ Graham declared on the programme. So, the final will be taking place on Saturday May 13 at Liverpool Arena, with the semi-finals of next year’s competition preceding the last stage of the contest.
Steve Rotheram, the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, celebrated the news of Liverpool hosting Eurovision 2023 by graciously expressing how much Glasgow would have also deserved the honour. ‘While we came up against stiff competition from Glasgow, who deserve more than the nil points they have received on this occasion, nowhere is more experienced or qualified, and nowhere throws a party quite like we do,’ he said.
‘We want to put on a show that Ukraine would be proud of, and we have been working closely with Liverpool’s sister city of Odesa to ensure that this is their event as much as our own. ’The Mayor stressed that ‘now the hard work begins’, stating: ‘Putting on a show that will give millions a night they will never forget in one of the most turbulent and trying years
