Steven Gaydos Executive VP of Content The Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on Oct. 7 inflamed the Middle East region, igniting yet another war with thousands of victims, both Jewish and Palestinian. The repercussions of the conflict are now felt all over the world, signified by massive demonstrations from Paris to Caracas, for and against both sides of the conflagration.
And you can add Hollywood to that list of cities torn by the strong emotions that leave no room for middle ground, as many of the entertainment industry’s biggest companies and biggest names from the executive ranks and famous performers speak out — and square off. The past week, however, has seen the Spirit Awards in Santa Monica disrupted not by speeches, but by an outside-the-tent agitator with an amplified bullhorn. The Berlin Film Festival saw a flurry of high-profile protests, and their awards ceremony was marked by several very impassioned political statements, so much so that the Festival itself issued an unprecedented statement condemning the speeches.
