Alvvays have shared new tracks from their forthcoming third studio album ‘Blue Rev’ – watch the videos for ‘Belinda Says’ and ‘Very Online Guy’ below.‘Blue Rev’ follows 2017’s ‘Antisocialites’ and is set for release on October 7 via Transgressive. So far, it’s been previewed by the singles ‘Pharmacist’ and ‘Easy On Your Own?’.On ‘Belinda Says’, the band take inspiration from Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’, singing: “Belinda says that heaven is a place on earth / Well, so is hell.”‘Very Online Guy’, meanwhile, sees vocalist Molly Rankin taking shots at an internet ‘reply guy’.

Roy Trakin As the new documentary on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group puts it, Chicago is “The Last Band On-Stage,” marking its 55th anniversary since its founding in the city of the same name in 1967. The feature film is the second about the band from director Peter Curtis Pardini, who also helmed 2016’s “Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago,” and catches us up on the last six years, the title referring to their 18-month absence due to the pandemic after a final performance on March 14, 2020 at Las Vegas’ Venetian before everything shut down. From the members’ beginnings as part of Windy City cover bands to their incarnation as Chicago Transit Authority on their groundbreaking debut, the band has had 28 different members over the years, with only vocalist/keyboardist Robert Lamm, trumpet player Lee Loughnane and trombonist Jimmy Pankow remaining from that original lineup. Their contemporaries include Joe Mantegna, now the star of TV’s “Criminal Minds,” but then just a member of fellow Chitown cover group the Apocryphals — hence his presence as narrator of the documentary, and moderator of a recent panel hosted by the Grammy Museum in L.A., joining the three band mainstays in front of an audience of adoring fans.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Christina Anderson will receive the 2022 Horton Foote Prize for “the ripple, the wave that carried me home,” a play that examines racial justice, politics and family forgiveness. She will be honored at a private celebration at New York’s Lotos Club, where Anderson will be presented with $50,000 and a limited edition of Keith Carter’siconic photograph of Horton Foote, which is found in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Named after Foote, the writer of “Tender Mercies” and “The Trip to Bountiful,” the biennial prize recognizes excellence in American theater. It has been presented since 2010.

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Compton-based house-music producer-singer Channel Tres has inked a deal that sees him joining RCA Records in partnership with L.A. indie Godmode. The partnership kicks off tonight with the release of the new single “No Limit,” with his debut full-length album “Real Cultural Shit” arriving later this fall. The album will also feature his singles from earlier this year, “Acid in my Blood,” “Ganzfeld Experiment” and “Just Can’t Get Enough.” Channel Tres, who has toured with Robyn, Vince Staples, Disclosure and Toro y Moi and performed at Coachella and New York’s Gov Ball, calls his style of dance music “Compton house”; it meshes the rhythms of Chicago house and Detroit techno with the bite of West Coast rap.

Groove Armada have shared a new single called ‘Hold A Vibe’ and announced a special career-spanning boxset, ‘GA25’.The compilation album is due to for release on November 11 via BMG – pre-order/pre-save here. It’ll mark the 25th anniversary of the electronic duo’s debut single, 1997’s ‘At The River’.To preview the forthcoming collection, Groove Armada have today (September 21) dropped their first new track in over two years.Described as “an homage to dub and funk”, the hypnotic ‘Hold A Vibe’ boasts guest vocals from dancehall artist Red Rat. Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a small show in Chicago earlier this week, where the trio debuted a new song from soon-to-be-released fifth album ‘Cool It Down’.The show was announced earlier this month and took place at the Metro in Chicago on Monday night (September 19). The band played unreleased song ‘Lovebomb’ – a slow-burner built around shimmery, atmospheric synths – and four other cuts from the band’s first album in nearly a decade, which is set to arrive next week.Other ‘Cool It Down’ tracks on the setlist included the album’s lead single – the Perfume Genius-assisted ‘Spitting Off The Edge of The World’ – and last month’s ‘Burning’, along with the unreleased ‘Fleez’ and ‘Blacktop’, both of which the band have been previewing on tour in recent months.

Ramsey Lewis, a jazz pianist and composer who had a surprise appearance on the pop charts in 1965 with the hit “The In Crowd,” died Monday at 87. No cause of death was given, but his Facebook page indicated he “died peacefully at his home in Chicago” this morning.

The Story of Film: A New Generation opens at two dozen theaters this weekend — Laemmle Royal in LA, Museum of the Moving Image in NY, Music Box Theatre in Chicago and Brattle in Cambridge. It’s a mix of arthouses, cinematheques, museums and even a few multiplexes for Mark Cousins’ follow-up to his 15-hour, 2011 opus The Story Of Film: An Odyssey. Chicago rapper G Herbo has announced his new album Survivor's Remorse with its lead single "Me, Myself & I" featuring New York's A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The new track continues on the path Herbo laid with his 2020 project PTSD, an album about wounds both physical and unseen, and how easy it is to get sidetracked on the road to healing. Judging from Herbo's lyrics, he's wrestling with the same demons that defined so much of PTSD: "I been tweakin' (Trippin'), hardly ever sleepin' (Slippin') / Always overthinkin' (I feel it), tryna duck the reaper (That's how I'm livin')" A Boogie's verses are a bit too cloying to stack up next to Herbo's, though, even when they're trading bars in the final verse.
