What’s New on Amazon Prime Video in December 2022

Prime Video today announced that it will co-produce a new film for theatrical release with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective. The currently-untitled film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 28, 2023. Following the theatrical release, the film will be available for streaming on Prime worldwide.

Prime Video has given a series order to God of War, based on PlayStation’s hugely popular ancient mythology-themed video game. Co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios in association with PlayStation Productions, God of War will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series had been in the works at the streamer since March when Deadline reported exclusively that Prime Video was in negotiations for the property.

When the first season of “Hunters” concluded in 2020, its reception was divisive. The revenge thriller about a fictionalized band of Nazi hunters in 1970s New York City seemed destined to generate controversy even as it was relentlessly promoted by Prime Video.

Warner Bros Discovery and Amazon have struck a new distribution deal for HBO Max, returning the streaming service to Prime Video Channels.

Prime Video has supplanted Netflix as the No. 1 subscription streaming outlet in the U.S. in an annual ranking compiled by research firm Parks Associates. (See full chart below.)
