Jason Manford is joining the cast of Waterloo Road, taking on a leading role as he returns to acting.The comedian is best known for presenting Children in Need, Show Me the Funny and The One Show - but will be showing off his acting chops in the BBC One drama. Jason, 42, is making his debut on the school drama as Steve Savage - Waterloo Road's new headteacher who isn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers.The show is yet to reveal what will happen to the school's current headteacher Kim Campbell, played by Angela Griffin.

BBC's Holby City is coming to an end tonight after 23 years on screen. The drama series, which follows the highs and lows of staff and patients on the wards of fictional Holby City hospital, will air its final ever episode on Tuesday night.

From 1999-2022, the hospital drama was one doc appointment we were happy to keep. It began as a spin-off to Casualty but immediately set itself apart with the soap star cast, scripts that had more witty one liners and less medical jargon, and stories that made viewers come back to the Holby General ward again and again. The last episode promises more of that winning combination, as we find out the fate of much-loved surgeon Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel).
