A scathing parliamentary report "validates" concerns raised by himself and other regional leaders last year about local lockdowns Andy Burnham has said.

And he said its findings were proof that there must be no return to localised restrictions – even in areas such as Trafford which currently has the highest infection rate in the country.

The joint report by two committees of MPs said serious errors and delays, including on testing, care homes and the timing of the first lockdown, cost lives
