After completing the signing of Mateo Kovacic, Manchester City could turn their attention to Josko Gvardiol next as they look to add to their squad this summer.
Kovacic was unveiled as City's second arrival of the transfer window so far as the Croatian man completed a £25million move to Pep Guardiola's side, potentially rising to £30million with ad-ons. Not seen as a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, another midfielder could still be on the cards for City, but RB Leipzig defender Gvardiol is also a target.
Reports suggest that the 21-year-old could cost around £75million this summer, a hefty fee. fora defender. But, Gvardiol's performances for Croatia at the World Cup and over the last two years in the Bundesliga have highlighted his fantastic current ability and potential.

To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2023 editor to move the defender to City on July 1, 2023, using FM23 to run the simulation. We then simulated the entire 2023/24 season to see how Gvardiol got on.
With a hefty price tag, Gvardiol was put into Guardiola's side from the go, starting the season between the left-back and centre-back role. The Croatian impressed and quickly established himself as one of the best defenders at the club, becoming a regular in City's XI.
Across all competitions, Gvardiol made 56 appearances, more than any defender at the club. The 21-year-old managed two goals and one assist, whilst winning the Player of the Match award twice and averaging a rating of 7.06 per game.
