Rodri said City's players "don't understand many things that happened" in the 3-2 win at Newcastle and said "the referee today was unbelievable in a negative way" before going on to question the crackdown this season that has led to more yellow cards being brandished.
"I have eight yellow cards [one in the Champions League] with two or three tackles, the others are like, I don't know what, but it is what it is," he said.
"There's something that we cannot understand. l got a contact and a foul that wasn’t a yellow card and the next action with Bernardo is a yellow card, but it is the way they chose to referee.
"So we have to try to forget. But sometimes, trust me, it is a bit hard."
Asked if it was a struggle to maintain composure at times due to refereeing decisions this season, Rodri said: "It's difficult.
