Bosses of an historic country pub famed for its Sunday roasts have announced its sudden closure - blaming "£10k a month" gas and electric bills. The Frozen Mop is set in a 19th century barn building in rural Mobberley in Cheshire.
In recent years the pub has been run by the Cheshire Pub Co, which also owns the likes of The Churchill Tree in Nether Alderley, The Ship at Styal and The Crown and Conspirator in Bramhall. The pub is known for its unusual farmhouse style building, and its hearty traditional pub menu.
But on Monday, October 2, it closed its doors to customers - in what bosses say is a temporary measure. They issued a full statement on their social media accounts explaining the situation.

In the announcement post, bosses said they have put forward proposals to convert some of the space at the pub into hotel rooms to "make better use of the property". They blame their increasing overheads as they head into the winter for making the decision to temporarily close.
The full statement from Cheshire Pub Co said: "Temporary closure of The Frozen Mop, effective today Monday 2nd October.
"Unfortunately due to overheads, especially electric and gas costs, circa 10k per month, we can't continue to trade the site in its current format and as we head into winter, fuel bills will increase substantially.
"We have put proposals forward to the landlord to make better use of the property and to convert the upstairs to hotel letting accommodation, which we believe the site needs to continue.
