For this year's birthday, my daughter had her heart set on some limited edition Nike Dunk trainers.

But with the ones she spotted in The Trafford Centre costing around £200, I decided to look online for a better offer. I did find a better offer, more than £50 cheaper in fact, on the Laced website.
Unlike your typical shop, it's one of a number of relatively new online marketplaces that sells items on behalf of third parties. What it means is that sellers can list their items, including luxury trainers and other branded footwear, to buyers on an anonymised basis.
Once you purchase an item it gets sent to Laced, where it goes through a full authentication process to determine whether they are the real deal. Having read lots of positive reviews, I decided to go ahead with my purchase and ordered the trainers in time for my daughter's birthday.
Within a few days however, I received a message telling me they had 'failed authentication' and I would receive a refund. While pleased that I didn't end up with a pair of fakes, it left me with little time to sort an alternative.
At least the process is a thorough one though and I'm sure plenty of savvy shoppers
