Tyson Fury has been told that he can continue as WBC heavyweight champion despite taking part in his upcoming 'crossover' fight against UFC star Francis Ngannou.
Fury has held the WBC world heavyweight title since 2020, but some reports this week had suggested his reign could be at risk should he fail to agree terms on a world title fight against a top-ranked contender. Oleksandr Usyk is the obvious contender as the holder of all remaining belts in the heavyweight division, but Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua have also been mentioned.
Fury and Usyk failed to agree terms on a fight, with the Gypsy King instead electing to take on Ngannou as his next opponent. Sulaiman spoke to Gambling.com to reveal how the fight came about and opened up on the Usyk talks.
"Well, he is not fighting Oleksandr Usyk because he was not ready last December. Then they couldn’t do it in March and then they went their separate ways. Anthony Joshua – the same thing, so don’t blame Tyson Fury. He has been there and been there ready. I love the event (between Fury and Ngannou)."
Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou will face each other on October 28 in Saudi Arabia in a fascinating crossover fight between two world champions. It's MMA vs boxing and the whole event will be shown live on TNT Sports box office.

He has since faced Derek Chisora and will now fight for a special WBC title, similar to the one Jake Paul and Fury's younger brother Tommy fought for back in February.
