Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has been told to "give himself more time" before jumping into a position in the Premier League amid strong links with the Everton job.
The former striker started his career at Goodison Park before making the move to Old Trafford as a teenager, where he progressed into one of the world's top talents.
The Pride Park job is Rooney's first as a manager and has been a baptism of fire with the club's financial struggles and subsequent 21-point deduction this season.
But, with Rooney in charge, relegation is not guaranteed with the club winning four of their last five to move off the bottom of the table. Such form has prompted links with the Goodison Park vacancy.
However, former teammate Mikael Silvestre has urged the 36-year-old to continue "learning his craft" before taking the plunge in the English top-flight.
“He should give himself more time - opportunities like this might not ever come back, so that’s something to consider. It’s still early doors, he’s done a good job at Derby despite the circumstances," he told Slingo Casino.
"But my advice would be to keep learning his craft and learning about himself before going into the hot seat. He is a very young manager, still playing not long ago.
"Jobs like this will come in the future if he carries on like this because his name is huge in the Premier League.”
