The detective who spearheaded the investigation against serial sexual predator Dr Krishna Singh described the case as “complex and horrific”.
A team of more than 30 officers worked tirelessly to build a case against Singh, ultimately securing justice for 48 of his victims.
Detective Inspector Stephen Morris said: “In relation to a GP, we have never come across a case so complex and horrific. Quite early on in the inquiry we realised the scope of the case was much larger than it first appeared and included some very high level sexual offending.
“Singh was an unusual character who didn’t seem to grasp the reality or recognise the significance of the complaints being made against him.
“Even when he was arrested, he behaved as though it was just another day and he was just helping the police with an investigation. There was no emotion.”
For decades Singh had been preying on women with no repercussions.
The task force widened the net of potential victims, ultimately writing to more than 1500 women who had been current or former patients of Singh.
The age range of contact was lowered to 12 when two teenage victims aged 14 and 15 came forward showing Singh, who will be sentenced later this month, had also targeted children.
More than 100 potential victims were identified.
DI Morris said: “His standing in the community was a large hurdle in terms of victims engaging with us.
“There is always that convention where people say, ‘If you can’t trust your doctor, who can you trust?’.
“I hope this conviction provides a sense of closure for the victims.”
