Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Italian actor-turned-director Andrea Di Stefano, whose sleek cop thriller “Last Night of Amore” just had its U.S. premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, is in advanced stages of development on “Karski” a feature about Jan Karski, the World War II Polish resistance fighter who risked his life to blow the whistle on the Holocaust. Di Stefano’s high-profile project, which is titled “Karski,” is being developed by New York City-based production company Phiphen Pictures, the indie founded by Molly Conners most recently behind Netflix’s “Like Father” and “It’s Bruno!,” the director said. Italy’s expanding Indiana Production, which shepherded “Amore,” is also on board.

A developer has revealed plans to build ‘high quality family homes’ at a greenfield ‘infill’ site in Rochdale. Lancet Homes has submitted proposals for 18 detached houses on land off Crompton Avenue, in Balderstone, including a mix of four and five-bedroom properties.The three-acre grassland plot - close to Broad Lane Community Woodland - is surrounded by housing on three sides, while to the south is a football pitch currently used by Rochdalians AFC.A public footpath running through part of the council-owned site would be diverted to allow for the new housing. Planning papers say the scheme provides an opportunity to ‘naturally infill’ the existing residential area with a development of similar appearance and character.

Academy Gold Rising career development program. Gold Rising teams up with several studios and organizations to aid students and young professionals from underrepresented communities develop their careers in the film industry. This year’s slate includes 90 students and 21 film and entertainment companies. The eight-week program kicked off on Wednesday with a two-day orientation process, consisting of a presentation on the Academy Film Archive and tours of the Margaret Herrick Library and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.  The Gold Rising program will commence with a graduation ceremony on August 10. After completion of the program, participants will be matched up with an Academy member for an eight-month mentorship experience.
