Britons could end up seeing a much warmer end to the month compared to the current conditions, according to weather forecasters.
A so-called 'African plume' could potentially push up towards the UK through Portugal and Spain in the final week of March, which may create some 'summer-like' conditions for Brits.
It comes shortly after potential snow flurries and freezing temperatures of -5C are expected to barrel through Scotland and other parts of the UK around the middle of the month, before making way for some more settled conditions to take place.
Some places in the north of Scotland could see temperatures taking a plunge during the early hours of March 13, with areas such as Dundee, Aberdeen and Stornoway struggling to get above freezing.
But the Express reports that just a few days later, things could start to look up, as a more milder period could take hold across the UK.
Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist for British Weather Services, said the UK was entering a "lull", but that all could change towards the latter end of March.
He explained: "We’re in a bit of a lull at the moment. The ‘porridge’ is neither too cold nor too hot, with little if anything in the way of snow events.
"There are however longer term signals for notably warmer weather final third of the month, dependent upon what looks like a hot African plume pushing through Portugal and Spain."
While a forecast this far in advance isn't certain, Jim explained the surge of heat coming from Spain depends on two things - but if it does happen, it'll bring summer-like conditions.
