Two drivers have been airlifted to hospital after a van and a bus collided in a horror crash earlier this evening.
The two vehicles crashed on the A77 near Kingswell at around 5.40pm with the two passengers on the bus also being treated by paramedics at the scene.
However, the extent of the injuries sustained by those involved has not been disclosed.
The Ayrshire road has been completely closed in both directions for five hours with the M77 exit slip also closed.
The bus involved in the smash was a Stagecoach service 4 which travels between Kilmarnock and Glasgow. Bosses at the firm said their thoughts are with everyone involved in the crash.
A spokesperson from Stagecoach West Scotland said: “We confirm that one of our buses, service 4, has been involved in a serious accident with another vehicle this evening (Monday, August 14) on the A77 near Fenwick.
"The drivers of both vehicles have been air airlifted to hospital. There were two passengers on board, both being treated by ambulance teams at the scene.
"Our thoughts are with our colleague, passengers and the other driver involved. We cannot comment on any further details at this time and we are continuing to work with the emergency services at the scene.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said earlier this evening: "Around 5.40pm on Monday, August 14, police received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a bus and a van on the A77 near the Kingswell roundabout.
“The road is currently closed southbound and emergency services remain at the scene.”
Traffic monitoring system Inrix stated: "A77 Ayr Road in both directions closed due to accident investigation work from The A719 to M77 J6 (Kingswell). The M77 exit slip road is also closed."
