Tributes have been paid to a 'patient and kind' Scots academic after he was tragically found dead in his flat.
Cops confirmed they discovered the body of a 32-year-old man in a property in East Mayfield, Edinburgh, on January 3.
He has been named by friends as Rodrigo Rodrigues, originally from Brazil.
Rodrigo was a post-doctoral fellow in biomedical sciences at Edinburgh University.
It is believed he passed away sometime between the dates of December 30, 2021 and January 2, 2022.
A fundraiser has now been launched to help his family, who live in Brazil and Portugal, pay for funeral, legal and travel expenses.
A message on the GoFundMe from his heartbroken friend Daniel read: "He was only 32 and had a bright and promising future ahead of him in the field of cancer research.
"Rodrigo's family reside in Brazil and Portugal, and as it appears that Rodrigo did not have life insurance, his family need support regarding funeral, legal, and travel expenses.
"Rodrigo will be remembered by all as a patient and kind friend and a dedicated scientist."
Emotional tributes have also poured in for the 32-year-old on social media as news broke of his death.
Luca Cassetta said: "Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues was a colleague and a friend working at Edinburgh University.
"He passed [away] few days ago. A tragic news for us and for his family in Brasil. A Gofund campaign has been launched to support Rodrigo's funeral expenses. Please donate or RT."
Markus Tschurtschenthaler urged: "Please help Rodrigo's family cover the funeral expenses - for my friend Rodrigo Rodrigues."
