A woman has recalled the heartbreaking moment she discovered her sister and brother were no longer breathing after falling asleep at her flat.
Speaking at an inquest into their deaths at Bolton Coroner's Court on Monday (January 8) Jade Couperthwaite became emotional as she described waking up on September 6, last year to find her sister Carla Couperthwaite, 26, unresponsive next to her on the sofa at the flat they shared in Bolton. Jade told the inquest she called an ambulance and began performing CPR on her sister. Paramedics arrived at the flat shortly afterwards and found that Carla was sadly beyond resuscitation. They then went to check on Stephen and found he had also tragically died.

Recalling that day, Jade began crying as she said: “I thought this can’t be real that they’re not breathing. What’s going on?”
Jade said she and Carla had recently moved into the flat together for a ‘new start in life’ and said her sister’s mental health was on ‘top form’, describing her as ‘happy’ and ‘very positive’.
Remembering the day her siblings died, she said she had collected Stephen from their uncle’s house and took him to her flat where she and Carla had shared a bottle of wine.
Jade said Stephen had a ‘problem with his back teeth’ that he was taking morphine for, which she only later learnt had not been prescribed to him. She said Carla was ‘fine all night’ and was doing her nails on the sofa next to her while Stephen
