Low-cost portable heaters sold by Temu and the TikTok shop have been pulled from sale after they failed a safety test conducted by Which?.
The consumer watchdog recently bought and tested out eight portable heaters - some costing as little as £7.20 - and found six to be electrically unsafe. Three out of five TikTok heaters were deemed "dangerously unsafe", while all three from Temu posed a danger to users.

The heater was found on a listing that stated it had been sold 2,100 times, while another Temu-based seller claimed 6,700 sales.
In another instance from the shopping platform, the £14.99 X7 portable space heater was found to have been incorrectly assembled with live parts being easy to access, which could pose a risk of electric shock. The seller Which? bought from had sold 353 of them, but researchers found two more sellers listing identical products and claiming 8,900 sales between them.
Meanwhile, TikTok's £15.99 NFJ004 portable electric heater was found to have been made so badly that it could cause an electric shock, catch fire or explode. Another option from the video-sharing app's shopping platform was found to be lacking instructions.
Despite only one TikTok heater being deemed safe to use and legal to be sold in the UK, the watchdog found that those promoting the dangerous products were "paid partnership" and "commission paid". Which? has
