TIFF Sets World Premiere Of Atom Egoyan’s ‘Seven Veils’

The Toronto International Film Festival announced the 2023 selections for the Discovery and Midnight Madness program this morning. The Midnight Madness lineup features 10 titles, seven of which are World Premieres. The Discovery lineup, which primarily boasts World and International Premieres, includes 26 titles. Notably, 13 female filmmakers representing 50% of the total are featured in this year’s Discovery program. 

A Murder at the End of the World, the limited series that stars Emma Corrin, Clive Owen, Harris Dickinson and Brit Marling, has had its premiere pushed by FX.

Atom Egoyan’s “Seven Veils” will have its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF organizers announced on Wednesday. The Canadian filmmaker of “Exotica,” “The Sweet Hereafter” and “Chloe” will present his film at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in a special Sept. 8 “Avant-premiere” screening held in partnership with the Canadian Opera Company.“Seven Veils” stars Amanda Seyfried and was inspired by Egoyan’s recent experience with a revival of his 1996 version of the opera “Salome,” which he directed for the first time in 1996 for the Canadian Opera Company.

With the WGA and SAG strikes happening right now, there are a lot of questions about what the fall film festival circuit will look like. Will studios pull films if they can’t have stars show up at the events? Will the events be delayed if they can’t produce a quality lineup of features? Well, even though we don’t know the answers to those questions, it appears it’s business as usual over at the Toronto International Film Festival, as the event has announced the first film to make its debut— “Seven Veils” from director Atom Egoyan.
