Toronto International Film Festival 2023: Diljit Dosanjh & Arjun Rampal’s ‘Punjab ’95’ Set For World Premiere

The Indian human rights activist drama, Punjab ’95, has been pulled from this year’s TIFF lineup, Deadline has confirmed. We hear this was a decision made by the filmmakers, not the festival.

TIFF today revealed their Centerpiece programme lineup which includes the Cannes Film Festival-winning Wim Wenders movie, Perfect Days. The festival also revealed another couple of star-driven world premieres that being Paramount’s Finestkind starring Jenna Ortega, Ben Foster and Tommy Lee Jones as well as 20th Century Studios/Hulu’s Awkwafina, Sandra Oh and Will Ferrell comedy, Quiz Lady.

“I Am Sirat,” a collaboration between Sirat Taneja and Deepa Mehta is all set to have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film was entirely shot on cellphones and examines the duality of Sirat’s daily existence as a transgender woman living in New Delhi, India.

Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all North American rights to Academy Award-winning Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Evil Does Not Exist ahead of its world premiere in Competition at the Venice Film Festival next month.

The mystical and the industrial cross paths in this haunting debut from India, screening at this year’s Locarno Film Festival in the event’s parallel competition for first and second movies. It begins in an almost documentary style, showing the harsh, eerie beauty of Jharia, a once-proud mining community that’s now an apocalyptic ruin of a city, where toxic waste is dumped 24/7 and noxious fires burn just as endlessly. Midway through, however, Lubdhak Chatterjee’s film begins to change direction, as its passive hero becomes attuned to the natural mysteries lurking in the adjacent woods.  

Taylor Swift played ‘Exile’ as the ‘surprise song’ on her ‘Eras’ tour in California last night (August 7) – check it out below.The song is taken from Swift’s 2020 album ‘Folklore’, and while it had previously been played live, it hadn’t yet been played on the ‘Eras’ tour. Their new 2023 ‘Dawn To Dusk’ US and Canada Tour wiill kick off in early October at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California.Following which, The Rose will play shows in Seattle, Denver, Columbus, Miami and more, as well as concerts in the Canadian cities of Vancouver and Toronto.In November, the band will play three shows across Texas, in Houston, Grand Prairie and Austin, before wrapping things up with two final show in Phoenix and Inglewood.According to a poster for the concerts, The Rose’s 2023 ‘Dawn To Dusk’ tour will be headed to more countries soon.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter “Seven Veils,” a drama starring Amanda Seyfried, will have its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Atom Egoyan directed the movie, which also stars Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O’Brien and Vinessa Antoine. TIFF runs from Sept. 7-17, and the full lineup for the 48th edition will be released in August. “We are honoured to premiere Atom Egoyan’s extraordinary film at this year’s festival,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. “Egoyan’s cinematic works are unmatched, and we’re excited to bring ‘Seven Veils’ to our TIFF audiences and to the city of Toronto, his home.”
