Katie Reul editor Premiering the night before Easter, the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” opened with a serene image of the sketch show cast members sitting at a long table, perfectly costumed and positioned to parallel Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” But the tranquility was short-lived with the arrival of cast member James Austin Johnson, who took over the cold open by telling the story of Easter as a monologue delivered by Donald Trump. Last week’s episode also opened with a Trump spoof after the former president was indicted by a grand jury. On April 4, Trump pled not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records. Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor The three men convicted of murdering rapper XXXTentacion in a 2018 robbery in Florida were sentenced to life in prison Thursday, according to NBC Miami and multiple news reports. Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright and Trayvon Newsome appeared in a Broward County courtroom, where Judge Michael Usan handed down the life sentences, which are mandatory in the state. The three men will have no chance for parole or early release. The late rapper’s manager, Solomon Sobande, the manager for the rapper whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, read a statement on behalf of the family during the sentencing, and referenced XXXTentacion’s son, who was born after he died.
XXXTentacion were formally sentenced Thursday to serve life in prison.Showing little emotion during the proceeding, Michael Boatwright, 28, Dedrick Williams, 26, and Trayvon Newsome, 24, were handed their fates from Circuit Judge Michael Usan, who addressed each man individually after also presiding over their trial. The sentencing by Usan was largely a formality since Florida law dictates a life sentence for first-degree murder convictions. In somewhat of a departure, however, prosecutor Pascale Achille asked the judge to impose an additional 30-year sentence on Boatwright, found to have been the triggerman, for violating several provisions of his probation when the rapper was slain. The prosecutor asked that the sentence be served consecutively to his life sentence because of Boatwright's behavior during the trial.«Several times during the trial, Mr. Boatwright did not appear to take these matters seriously,» she told the judge, citing instances of his «abhorrent behavior» when he laughed during the proceeding.
