This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby broke down in tears today as she discussed an 11-year-old boy who fled Ukraine on his own.
The mum-of-three was visibly emotional as co-host Phillip Schofield told viewers about the youngster's plight, as reports the Mirror.
Phil said of the unnamed Ukrainian child: “He travelled 600 miles across the country to the Slovakian border by himself. He’s been reunited with relatives.
“He journeyed almost the entire width of the country with a plastic bag and a phone number written on his hand. His parents had to stay in Ukraine.
“Thanks to that number written on his hand, staff managed to contact relatives who came to meet him.”
The UN has reported two million people have now fled to neighbouring countries amid the Russian military assault on Ukraine.
Holly has three kids of her own - Harry, 12, Belle, 10, and Chester, seven, with her husband Dan Baldwin - and broke down at the tale of the child.
This Morning guest Nicola Thorpe replied: “750 miles all alone as an 11-year-old and that was the best option for his mother, who’s a widow and was looking after an elderly relative.
“I don’t want to live in a world where this is the best option. Children should not be waiting, especially not on their own, at these borders.
“There are human traffickers operating now at the moment in Calais. I wish children could get here safely and then we figure out their paperwork.”
This comes after Holly was left upset yesterday as she broke down in tears watching a clip of a young Ukrainian girl singing Let It Go from Frozen.
Speaking on the ITV show, Holly tried to contain her emotions as she said: "Despite the ongoing war, the resilience and morale amongst Ukrainian people remains extraordinarily high.
