For Manchester’s many bars, restaurants and pubs, we are coming up to what can be a bit of an uncertain period.
As we inch closer towards Christmas, there will be people who will choose to dine out less as they save up the pennies. But there will also be others who will go out more as they enjoy this time of year with friends and family - and the idea of going out for a comforting and warming meal is incredibly appealing as the cold nights begin to creep in.
So, it’s in that regard that I feel the need to remind myself and everyone else that restaurant staff, chefs, bartenders and everyone else working in hospitality are continuing to have it hard right now. And there’s one recent story that highlights that perfectly.

A story this week highlighted how a customer at Sud Pasta in Sale left a two-star review because they did not serve vodka. The customer wrote in the review that they felt it was ‘just ridiculous’ that the Italian restaurant did not serve the spirit - a decision made by staff because it was not ‘of the country’ - and that they ‘left immediately’ after.
Replying to the review, a member of staff said: “we also don’t serve tequila, rum or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. All very popular but have nothing to do with south Italian dining.”
While the restaurant was able to make light of the situation and turn it around in their favour, posting a two-star negative review purely because someone’s specific request was not available seems mean. As one commenter put it, it can be like going to a nightclub and getting upset they don’t serve
