Scream VII is apparently very much in the works, but it’s likely going to look very different from the last two installments.
The filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) directed Scream back in 2022, and returned for Scream VI in 2023. However, while the latest installment was a big hit, it sounds as though the team won’t be back for the seventh movie.
According to a new report, someone else may be taking over for Scream 7: Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon.
“We’re told Radio Silence was very interested in directing Scream VII but unfortunately they’ve been busy with their upcoming Universal Studios monster movie, which was recently filming under a shroud of secrecy. The mysterious project doesn’t yet have an official plot synopsis at this time, and it doesn’t even have an official title,” Bloody Disgusting reported Wednesday (August 2).
“It’s likely that with the Radio Silence team focusing on their Universal monster movie, the scheduling ultimately just didn’t work out for them to return for Scream VII. As for the Christopher Landon rumors, Bloody Disgusting has heard that Landon has indeed been in talks to direct Scream VII,” the outlet added.
At this point, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have stalled production, so it’s unclear what the status is on the forthcoming seventh movie.
