The Traitors has been renewed for a third season - before the second series has even aired. The BBC show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, proved to be a smash hit when it first hit the screens at the end of 2022.
The format saw 22 strangers compete for a £100,000 prize at a castle in the Highlands - with groups secretly divided for “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust”.
Most of the contestants were known as 'Faithfuls' and were tasked with working out who among them were 'Traitors' - who had the opportunity to 'murder' a fellow participant each night.
The group had daily 'banishments' in which they voted to boot out who they thought was a Traitor - while working together on challenges to raise money for the prize fund. Last week, fans were sent into a frenzy when a short trailer for the second series aired - saying the show was set to return soon.
And BBC bosses are so confident it will be another success that they have already opened applications for season three. Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, said: “The massive unscripted hit The Traitors will be back for a third series.
Expect to see more psychological gameplay, exciting challenges and of course Claudia at the helm. “It will be a thrilling ride for both avid fans and newcomers to the series for sure.
The BBC will always remain faithful to The Traitors.” Stephen Lambert, CEO of the show’s producers Studio Lambert, added: “We’re delighted a third series of The Traitors has been confirmed today ahead of the second series’ arrival on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The Traitors has been so warmly received by viewers, critics and award juries alike.
