As we approach the midpoint of autumn, there has never been a better time to book a tranquil getaway in the Scottish countryside.
With the nights drawing in and much of the country seeing grey skies and wet weather, nothing can cheer you up quite like a holiday. If you are feeling stressed, a spa break is even better.
Fortunately, there are plenty of hotels and spas dotted around Scotland where you can escape from the stresses of everyday life for a little while. Some of them can even be booked for a bargain price.
One of these is Ardoe House in Aberdeenshire, a breathtaking 19th-century baronial mansion set within 30 acres of gorgeous grounds. Just outside of Aberdeen's city centre, it is perfectly situated for both peaceful walks and shopping trips.

An overnight stay for two at Ardoe House can currently be booked for £99 through voucher website Wowcher. As well as a full Scottish breakfast and a bottle of wine to share, the deal also includes access to the hotel's spa.
With facilities such as a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, and an aerobics studio, there is plenty of opportunity to unwind. Meanwhile, treatments on offer include massages, facials, and salt scrubs.
For an additional £40, you can also enjoy a two-course meal at Ardoe House's "stylish" Blairs restaurant. Dishes on offer include butternut squash risotto with roasted red pepper, violife cheese and pesto, and chicken with Parmentier potato, baby leek, wild mushroom, pancetta and chicken sauce.
Looking at travel website Tripadvisor, the hotel is popular amongst visitors, with an average rating of four out of five based on 1,635 reviews.
