A "wonderful" and "excellent" hotel in the Outer Hebrides is currently available to book for half price, and it looks like an ideal staycation spot.
While summer breaks in Scotland have their own advantages, nothing beats an autumn holiday if it's peace and calm you're after. There are countless hotels and inns all over the country perfectly situated to take advantage of the stunning fall scenery and colours.
With many Scots on a budget amid the cost of living crisis, some can thankfully be booked for bargain prices if you know where to look. One of these is the Polochar Inn on the Isle of South Uist, where an overnight stay for two is currently available for £99 through Wowcher — 48 per cent off the standard price of £189.
The inn, which is situated "just a stone's throw from the beach", is in an ideal location to explore South Uist and head out on scenic hikes. Among the nearby sights are an early Bronze Age standing stone that sits directly opposite the inn and the breathtaking Hebridean Way walking trail.
Meanwhile, also included in the £99 deal is a full Scottish breakfast and a late 12pm checkout. You can even upgrade to a two-night or three-night stay for £169 or £249 respectively.
Looking at travel website Tripadvisor, the Polochar Inn is very popular amongst visitors, with an average rating of 4.5 out of five based on 678 reviews.
One recent guest wrote: "Arrived here after ferry cancellation. Mangala the manager, Kirsty on the bar and Emmanuel in the dining room are an asset to the establishment, truly a perfect example of what great hospitality is!
"From what I observed they not only went above and beyond for me and my dog but every other person who was in the hotel whether it be guests or just in for a meal."

The recent passing of Terence Davies and the tributes that followed — tales of a steel will, impassioned budgetary battles and a host of dream projects that never materialized — give this highly personal tribute to Scottish filmmaker Bill Douglas an extra and very poignant relevance as a similar story, now depressingly familiar to the British film industry, of an uncompromising talent who left us with a tantalizing promise of what might have been. Now largely unknown to the wider world, but very dear to the heart of Scotland (despite the fact that he left his homeland at the earliest opportunity), Douglas is the closest thing to a Rosetta Stone in recent British independent and social-realist cinema. From his early home movies through to his last three-hour masterwork Comrades (1986), the director left an indelible imprint that still seems shockingly modern today, leaving traces in everything from Derek Jarman’s early Super-8 works to Lynne Ramsay’s Ratcatcher and beyond.

Although we've always adored this trend in vintage antique furniture, leather journals, and watch straps, the truth is that for a long time brown was a color that did not often factor into our outfit choices.
